Final old bird race of the season

The N.I.P.A. were in St Malo for their final old bird race of the season and their blue riband event, the St Malo Old Bird National.

The birds were liberated on Friday 24/06/16 at 6.15am into a west to north westerly breeze. 464 members sent 1,841 birds. Top bird winning 1st Club Newry & Dist, 1st Sect G (42/176) & 1st Open is the master himself Ronnie Williamson.

Section C Report

Top bird, winning 1st Club Larne & Dist, 1st Sect C (84/334) & 6th Open is Mark Witherspoon. Mark’s latest top performer is a two year old blue bar hen sent to St Malo on chipping eggs. She was hurt as a young bird so un-raced. As a yearling she was raced inland and had two channel races. This year she had two races - Fermoy and 1st Talbenny then trained with France in mind.

Ballyclare HPS: 1st A Thompson 641.

Doagh & Dist HPS: 1st B & M Gilmore 805, 2nd Mr & Mrs B McNeilly 686, 3rd Mr & Mrs D Suitters 660, 4th 5th J McGrugan & Son 653, 599, 6th S & A Leitch 46. This week’s winners are Brian & Mervyn Gilmore.

Eastway HPS: 1st Gratton Bros 1022, 2nd R Briggs 647. The winner is a two year old widowhood cock timed at 17 minutes past 7 on the first day. Breeding is Grattan Bros crossed with Jos Joosen. 2nd club is Roy Briggs who timed early the second morning, raced natural on eggs. Roy who has just returned to pigeon racing this year obtained this Huybrect pigeon from clubmates Whiteside Bros.

Horseshoe HPS: 1st J Brown & Son 637, 2nd J McAuley 362. Jimmy tops the club in the race he loves. His latest winner was an open p/winner as a youngster from Talbenny Y/B National, as a yearling topped the club from Penzance and now tops the club from St Malo. A gift bird from clubmates M & M Small & Partners breeding is the best of the Soontjen/Vandenabeele bloodlines.

Larne & Dist HPS: 1st M Witherspoon 1044

Section D Report:

Top two birds winning 1st & 2nd Sect D (30/148) & 2nd & 3rd Open is the partnership of S & Y Kane. A dream result - sent 2 - 2 arrived together - yes together - timed to win the coveted Devine Two Bird Average Award. I was speaking to Sean to congratulate him and get a bit of info. The 2nd Open winner is bred from stock obtained from Gary Inkley from London and is the very best of the Brockamp, Noel Peirin & Koo Van Dolman bloodlines. The 3rd Open winner was a gift bird bred by good friends Geraldine & Paddy Brown - Corrigs - and is the very best of their Van Dyck family originating from K Rooney & Son.

The Ulster Fed were in St Malo for their final old bird race of the season and their blue riband event, the St Malo Old Bird Derby. The birds were liberated on Friday 24/06/16 at 6.15am into a west to north westerly breeze. 77 members sent 326 birds. There were five gallant birds recorded on the day of toss. Top bird winning 1st Glen Invitation & 1st Open is Martin Brown & Son vel 960. Their latest top performer was a 2015 latebred that was bred by good friend Arthur McDonnell of the Brittannia club.
