Irish Moiled Cattle Society launches new members' pack

This week at the Balmoral Show, the Irish Moiled Cattle Society (IMCS) are launching an excitingly rejuvenated new members' pack.

This pack specifically targets new-members or anyone interested in the breed. The IMCS feel it is important to give as much help and guidance as possible to new members and therefore have produced a folder packed with a multitude of information, everything a new member/breeder requires to know.

Also making his debut appearance in public will be an Irish Moiled bull made from willow. This life-sized bull is the latest sculpture produced by award winning willow sculptor and basket maker Bob Johnston, who is the resident basket maker at the the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum for this past 15 years, having trained with Master Craftsmen in Ireland and France.

Over this past 10 years’ Bob has been experimenting with more modern uses of traditional weaving materials and techniques creating showpiece willow animal sculptures. This Irish moiled bull masterpiece was made especially for the museum stand at the Balmoral Show which also includes blacksmithing and basket making demonstrations.

The Ulster Folk & Transport Museum’s Farm Manager, Robert Berry, said: “The willow bull is the stand’s centerpiece and, of course, visitors are very welcome to get a photo with this fabulous sculpture. We hope visitors will enjoy our stand which focusses on Ulster’s old farming traditions and practices.”

Anyone wishing to find out more about the Irish Moiled breed can pick up an enquiry pack when admiring the willow bull or come along and chat to the breeders who will either be on hand in the Cattle Hall or showing in the Irish Moiled classes today (Wednesday, May 11) at 10am.
