It's a McLarnon Championship showdown at Clogher Valley

The most eagerly awaited contest of the summer show season is almost here. This year's final of the McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship will take place at Clogher Valley Show next Wednesday 27th July, at their picturesque showgrounds on the Knockmany Road, Augher.

Previous finals have seen some fierce competition, and 2016 looks set to be one of the most hotly contested championships ever, as top cows from around the province line up to compete for the prestigious title of Dairy Cow of the Year. 

Two cows from each local show have qualified for the final. This year’s entry reveals many top performing, show-winning cows from renowned cow families and leading sires. This year’s judge, Mr Alan Timbrell, will need to draw on his 30 years of judging experience as he selects his winner from a strong line-up.

Mr Timbrell, who runs the Fordmill Holstein and Millford Ayrshire herds, is widely regarded as one of the top international dairy judges. In addition to judging at many of the major UK shows, his previous judging engagements have included several visits to New Zealand and Finland.

Again this year there is a generous sponsorship fund donated by McLarnon Feeds. The company prides itself in providing specialist dairy feeds using high quality feed ingredients and innovative feed technologies, together with superior on-farm technical advice to maximise performance and profitability of individual dairy farms.

The prize money is awarded to the top six placed cows, the highest placed exhibitor-bred animal, and the best udder.  Each cow exhibited at the final will also receive an attendance prize comprising 10 bags of McLarnon Feed. The Dairy Cow Champion will also be presented with a Perpetual Shield.
