Lanark shearling tops at 9,000gns

The Ulster Ram Breeders' Association Blackface section held its annual show and sale on Monday at Ballymena Mart with a Lanark shearling from Charles Phillips, Draperstown making 9,000gns the top price in the Lanark ring and Paul McEvoy Kilcoo, Perth Champion ram lamb making 8,000gns, the top price in the Perth ring.

In the Lanark ring 209 shearlings sold to average £848 and 50 ram lambs sold to average £727. In the Perth ring 51 shearlings sold to average £430 and 63 ram lambs sold to average £868. Averages were up in two of the four groups with an extra 47 sheep being sold compared to last year.

Third top price of the day went to a Perth ram lamb from Tom Adams, Rathkenny making 5500gns, Charles Phillips, Draperstown, took the forth top price of 5,000gns with another Lanark shearling. Colin McEldowney, Maghera received 4,200gns and 3,800gns, Karl and Damien O’Mullan Dunloy got 4,000gns again for Lanark shearlings and Cathal Breslin Castlederg received 3,800gns for a Perth ram lamb.

The top price for the Lanark ram lamb of 3000gns went to two breeders Seamus and James Fegan Castlewellan and D & E Branaghan Kilcoo. The top price Perth shearling of 950gns was from Seamus O’Neill, Martinstown.
