COOLWYNDS Farm in Co Tyrone is set for a ‘cracking’ new year as it unveils its new free range egg laying unit.

The new facility, which houses 16,000 birds, has been supported by Ulster Bank and provides the farm with an additional income stream to their traditional suckler cow business.

A year on from the introduction of the Welfare of Laying Hens Directive, the bank says that those producers, who have invested in their cages to ensure they are compliant, are seeing opportunities in the market.
