In the show’s dairy ring, a number of top quality dairy cows were competing for a place in the final of the 2016 McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship.

The task of selecting the two Newry qualifiers was in the hands of Mr Fred Duncan, Crumlin.

Fred’s first qualifier and the Newry Show Champion Dairy Cow was Ortongrange Snowman Alysia VG89(2yr) from the Cluntagh Herd of Stephen Robinson, Crossgar. No stranger to show success, Alysia was the Interbreed Heifer Champion at AgriScot in 2014, and the All Britain Junior Heifer-in-Milk the same year. In her 1st lactation, she yielded 10,261kg at 4.10% Butterfat and 3.30% Protein. Calved for the second time in early February, she continues to produce 45kg per day.

The second qualifier and Newry Show Reserve Champion was the first lactation heifer Wiltor Day Cherry VG87 from the Horizon Herd of Kyle Henry, Armagh.

Calved since early February, she is currently averaging 39 kg/day at 4.20% Butterfat and 3.20% Protein. On top of her Newry Show success, Cherry was also 1st placed Heifer-in-Milk at this year’s Armagh Show.

McLarnon Feeds would like to congratulate both qualifiers and wish them every success at the final of The McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship at Clogher Valley Show on Wednesday 27th July.
