PSNI Firearms Explosives Branch '“ advice on banded transactions

The Justice No. 2 Bill gained Royal Assent and became the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2016 on Friday, May 13.

One of the key changes enabled by this is the completion of ‘banded’ transactions by firearms dealers in certain circumstances. A £15 fee is required for these transactions. This fee is now also required for existing ‘like for like’ transactions. Both types of transaction must continue to be notified to PSNI within 72 hours, on a new form - form 30/50 – Notification of a Transaction by a Firearms Dealer (available on the PSNI website).

Guidance regarding the rules governing the banded system, payment, Frequently Asked Questions and the table of permitted calibres is available on the PSNI website. The facility for electronic payment by the certificate holder is now live and can also be accessed from the website.

There is a Freephone number available to assist anyone using the payment facility. The number is 0800 783 9899 and is operational from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

From 18th May, dealers must ensure that proof of pre-payment is provided at the time of the transaction i.e. Transaction ID and Application ID.

PSNI Firearms and Explosives Branch recognise that this is a new process for dealers, the public and indeed their own staff and it is likely that there will be challenges to overcome. They have advised that they are committed to providing what assistance they can going forward to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible.

NI Countrysports Fair – this weekend!

This weekend, the Northern Ireland Countrysports Fair will be held at Scarvagh House, Scarva, County Down.

Countryside Alliance Ireland (CAI) will be in attendance at this, our first Fair of the season and following the success of last year’s event at the new venue, we are looking forward to it immensely.  CAI will once again have a significant presence with an extended marquee that will host the British Deer Society (NI), the Irish Trophy Commission, Firefly of Newtownards & PSNI FEB.

There are many activities and attractions to suit all ages and we hope that our members and supporters will come along to see us as this is an ideal opportunity to meet and speak with us face to face. We hope to see you there!
