Record breaker! Beltex soar to 60,000gns at Carlisle

Setting the best of the new marks at 60,000gns was one of the most fancied lots among the shearling rams on offer, Topflite Al Pacino from Dumfries-based Grant and Gemma Anderson. This twin-born shearling is by Woodies Wots Up Doc and out of Drumchapel Racy, an ET bred Kingledores Mighty Mac daughter.

Having stood seventh at this summer’s Royal Highland Show he had caught the eye of a number of top breeders and was subject to a furious bidding battle before being knocked down to the eventual buyers, Paul Tippetts and Christine Williams for their Hackney and Wilodge flocks, Shifnal, Shropshire.

Commenting on their purchase Paul Tippets said he was a true Beltex with a fantastic head and great mobility and a wonderful pedigree. “We saw him at the Royal Highland Show and felt he would work well in our own Beltex flocks.”

Grant Anderson said to have sold Al Pacino at such a high price was a shock. “I never expected anything like this - I knew he was an excellent tup as he has always stood out within his group and is a great example of the breed and when he was clipped he showed his true potential.”

Setting the second new breed record of the sale, a new ram lamb record, at 25,000gns was the leading priced ram lamb and second best price of the fixture, Broxty Boxer from the Buckle family, Kirkby Stephen. This lamb is homebred on both sides, being by Broxty Supreme, himself a son of former shearling record holder Dooley Napal, and out of Broxty Wispa, an Ardstewart Super Mario daughter. Wispa herself was champion at last year’s Royal Highland Show. Buying this one was Andrew Wood for his Withy Trees flock.

Following that at 13,000gns another of the shearlings and another heading to the Withy Trees flock with Andrew Wood. This was Cree Action Man from the Campbell family. Sired by the noted Clary Prankster, he is out of Cree Sandy, a Freckleton Nimrod daughter and was first in his class at this year’s Royal Highland Show.

Then came a brace of 12,000gns deals for shearlings, with the first of these being Buckles Alrite from the Buckle family. This is another son of Broxty Supreme and is out of Buckles Peggy,a Newton Leo daughter. Buying this one was Henry Jewitt, Barnard Castle.

Second at this price was Ardstewart Angus from Wade and Alison McCrabbe, Raphoe. He’s a son of Rathbone Tony and is out of Ardstewart Talk of the Tavern, a Broughton Pound Stretcher daughter. He found a new home with commercial ram producer Paul Slater, Macclesfield.

After that came an 11,000gns bid in the shearlings for Procters Aerosmith from Procters Farm, Wray, Lancaster. This son of Rathbone Wallace is out of Artnagullion Samantha, a Graham’s Ringo and sold in a two way split to I Reid, Methven, Perth, and Messrs Wood and Hunter, Muthill, Crieff.

Also making 11,000gns was another of the shearlings, this time from Stuart Wood, Aberdeenshire. This was Woodies Audi, a Woodies Snoop Dog son out of an imported dam. Buying this one was Jim Mulholland, Great Orton, Carlisle.

A pair then made 10,000gns, with the first being ram lamb Kingledores Battleaxe from Richard Wood and family. This son of Glenkeen Sanders is out of Kingledores Phoebe, a Viagrow V/d Drie Musschen daughter. He was another sold in a split purchase, selling to four breeders, John Braclay, Andrew Morton, A Ireland and J Sinclair and Son.

The other at this level was Muirton Armani from Jimmy Young. Sired by Padkin Sugar Daddy and out of an imported dam by Cusko Van’t Hoeksken, he also sold in a shared deal, being bought by Jock McMillan and A and J Campbell.

An 8500gns call followed that, with this money paid for Ardstewart Aragon from Wade and Alison McCrabbe. A son of the homebred Ardstewart Mr Bow Jangles he is out of Ardstewart Sweep, a Broughton Pound Stretcher daughter. He sold to Michael Owens, Llandysul.

Close behind at 8000gns were a pair of shearlings. The first of these was another of the Ardstewart team, Ardstewart Armani. Again by Mr Bow Jangles he is out of the same dam as the last, Ardstewart Sweep, and sold in a shared deal to Harry Wood, Dutton, and the Buckle family, Kirkby Stephen.

The other to take an 8000gns call was Myna Actor from W P and O Evans. He’s by Corra Rambo and out f Myna Tango, a Kingledores Popeye daughter. This one was the choice of Procters Farm, Wray, under the management of Jeff and Jennifer Aiken.

And a trio then followed that at 7000gns. The first two of these were both ram lambs from the Hackney flock of Paul Tippetts, with the first at this money being Hackney Braveheart, an ET-bred son of Muirton A Penny’s Worth out of Hackney What A Girl, a Scooby Doo daughter. He was knocked down in a four-way split to Carrick Primestock, Andrew Baillie, Andrew Morton and Jock McMillan.

The other from this pen at this price was Hackney Bravo. This son of Scooby Doo is out of Corra Nasturtium, a Brickrow Lional daughter and sold to Matthew Burghleigh and Preston Farms, both Northern Ireland.

And the final 7000gns bid was made for a shearling, Corstane Arran Gold from Mary Dunlop. Sired by Broughton Willies-Got-It, he is out of Corstane Saxifrage, a Clary Number One daughter and was bought by Colin Barnes, Northern Ireland.

Then following this was a 6000gns bid for Muirton Arrowstar from Jimmy Young. He’s a son of Padkin Sugar Daddy out of an imported dam and is a full brother to the 10,000gns Muirton Armani. Buying this one were Wade and Alison McCrabbe.

At 5500gns was another of the lambs from the Hackney pen, Hackney Banker. This is another son of Muirton A Penny’s Worth and is out of Hackney Wild Flower, a Kingledores Scally Wag daughter. This one sold to Harry Wood, Dutton.

A 5000gns call wrapped up the notable prices, with this money paid for Woodwick Amazing from Raymond Flaws. This son of Artnagullion Ringmaster is out of Woodwick Tipsy, a Forglen ET daughter. Buying him was Paul Slater, Macclesfield.

FEMALES

Heading up the trade in the gimmers was a 5000gns call for Woodies Art from Stuart Wood. Sired by Diablo V/D Laatse Stuiver, she is out of Woodies Twilight, a Kingledores Rameses daughter. Sold in a two-way split she was taken by S and S Moore, Brechin, and Neil Caul, Kirton of Auchterhouse.

Second best in the gimmers was a call of 3800gns for Kingledores Amelia from Ricjard Wood. This Kingledores Wurzle daughter is out of Kingledores Philippa, a Viagrow daughter and was bought by Henry Jewitt, Barnard Castle.

Wade and Alison McCrabbe then took 3200gns for Ardstewart Arrogento, a Rathbone Tony daughter out of Ardstewart Talk of the Tavern, a Broughton Pound Stretcher daughter. She sold to Robert Rennie, Kelso.

And taking a 3000gns call was Muirton Alyson from Jimmy Young. This daughter of Kingledores Wordsworth is out of Muirton Rita, a Loandhu Percy Pig daughter. Buying this one was G Yarr, Edzell, Angus.

A pair then sold at 2500gns, with the first being Ardstewart Agnes Brown, an Ardstewart Mr Bow Jangles daughter out of Ardstewart Sweep, a Broughton Pound Stretcher daughter. This one found a new home with Preston Farms, Northern Ireland.

The other at this money was Woodies A Wee Beauty from Stuart Wood. This is a Patron Du Bouchi daughter out of Woodies Ray of Hope, a Glantre Norris daughter. This one was the choice of Robert Jones and Co, Bala.
