Suffolk rams head for three sales

Top quality consignments of Suffolk rams are set to go under the hammer at three shows and sales in Omagh, Lisahally and Rathfriland this week.

Organised by the Northern Ireland Branch of the Suffolk Sheep Society, first class entries have been confirmed for all sales which take place in Omagh on Saturday 3rd September, Lisahally on Tuesday 6th September and Rathfriland on Wednesday 7th September.

A total of 30 lambs and eight shearlings are being offered for sale at Omagh which will be judged by the recent NI Branch Flock Competition winner Stephen Sufferin.

A further 30 rams and 14 shearlings will be for sale at Lishally where Ian Donald will conduct judging duties. Rathfriland show and sale will offer 35 rams and 10 shearlings for sale with Noel Priestley being the judge on the day.

These shows and sales follow the success of the shearling sale at Ballymena when the Benview flock of Geoffrey Douglas presented the champion which sold for 900gns to B Murnion, Kilkeel. Geoffrey Douglas also sold his 4th prize shearling for 580gns to R Black, Strabane. The Reserve champion belonging to Co. Down breeder Philip Savage topped the sale selling for 1,050gns to T A Rodgers, Ballymena. Elizabeth & James Gould’s 3rd prize winning shearling was knocked down to R&M Smyth, Dungiven for 580gns.
