A well-known figure in pedigree circles, Alan will have to call on his 30 years of judging experience to select the Overall Champion from a top class line-up of qualifiers.

This year’s final will take place at Clogher Valley Show on Wednesday, 27th July. Once again it promises to be a very competitive class with 18 of Ulster’s top dairy cows having qualified as champions from nine provincial shows.

The 2016 judge, Alan Timbrell, hails from Gloucestershire in England where he runs the Fordmill Holstein and Millford Ayrshire herds in partnership with his wife Sue and mother Mary. Alan is also the National Key Accounts Manager with cattle breeding company, Alta Genetics.

He is currently the Ayrshire Cattle Society’s Breed Heritage Chairman, and also President of the West Midlands Holstein Breeders Club.

Over the years, Alan has judged many of the major UK shows, including the UK National Ayrshire Show, All Breeds Calf Show, Royal Highland, Royal Cornwall, Royal Bath & West, Suffolk Show, Welsh Dairy Show and AgriScot. Earlier this year, he also travelled to New Zealand where he had the privilege of judging the Ayrshire and Interbreed classes at the New Zealand Dairy Event 2016. In 2011, he judged the Ayrshire National Show and Dairy Handlers Competition in Finland.

Alan is very much looking forward to the challenge of selecting the 2016 McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Champion. He knows from previous experience that the quality of Northern Ireland dairy cattle will make this task all the more difficult.

Organisers look forward to the final on 27th July at Clogher Valley Show and McLarnon Feeds would like to encourage breeders to bring their cows out to the provincial shows in order to qualify for the final and potentially become the McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Champion 2016.
