LAKELAND Dairies has announced the appointment of a Dungannon, County Tyrone, dairy farmer Colin Kelso to the Board of the co-operative.

His appointment follows the retirement from the Board of Omagh based dairy farmer Harry O’Neill who served as a Board member since 2003. Mr. Kelso joins Northern Ireland dairy farmer Cavan Johnston (from Downpatrick) on the Board of the co-op.

Lakeland Dairies Chairman, Padraig Young warmly welcomed Colin Kelso to the Board and also paid tribute to outgoing Board member Mr. Harry O’Neill.

“Colin is an excellent dairyman and his advice and contribution to the Board will be valuable as we continue to serve the milk processing, marketing and exporting requirements of our Northern Ireland milk producers. We are most grateful to Harry O’Neill for his long standing commitment and dedication to Lakeland Dairies and to the business of co-operative farming throughout his Board membership.”

Mr Kelso farms 500 acres and milks a herd of approximately 400 cows, mostly non pedigree Holsteins. He is married to Jill and they have four children.

Lakeland Dairies is a farmer owned dairy co-operative with a heritage of excellence in dairying spanning over 100 years. The co-operative processes milk supplied from hundreds of Northern Ireland dairy farms and operates major dairy processing facilities at Pritchitts in Newtownards.

Lakeland is the second largest dairy co-operative and fourth largest dairy processor on the island of Ireland. The co-op operates across fifteen counties on a cross border basis processing over 700 million litres of milk annually into a range of value-added dairy foodservice products and dairy food ingredients which are exported worldwide.
