IT has been a busy winter for UFU members in South Antrim, with a packed programme of events.

Prior to Christmas, members enjoyed a festive table quiz in the Dunsilly Hotel. The quiz, popular as ever, attracted a crowd of over 60 locals. Competition was fierce and a tie break was required to decide the winner. Congratulations to Loanends farmers, Mr and Mrs Fleming and friends for stealing victory.

More recently, the February meeting took place in Antrim Civic Centre on Monday 11th February 2013.

The format of the evening was the annual general meeting followed by an update from Ian Marshall, from UFU headquarters.

Mr Mark Blelock was elected as the new chairman of the South Antrim Group. Mr Brian Megahey was elected by members to become the next Co Antrim chairman. The team in the Crumlin office wish Mark and Brian well in their new roles. Thanks also go to Mr John Gray, the outgoing group chairman who has been a delight to work alongside.

Ian Marshall provided members with an update on all current UFU issues which proved to be a very topical discussion. The evening concluded with light refreshments.

South Antrim UFU members will meet again on Monday 11th March, in Greenmount Campus, CAFRE at 8pm, when David Wright, of IFJ, will come and speak to members. David has a wide knowledge of the agricultural industry.

The group also plan to run a day trip for members and friends in the Spring time. Venue is still to be confirmed, but details will follow in the next few weeks.

The team in the Crumlin office would like to thank everyone who has attended meetings so well over the winter months. All members as possible to attend the final meeting, and feel free to bring a friend along.

Anyone with any questions about the final meeting, or any other UFU membership queries, should contact Gyles, Zara or David in the Crumlin office on 028 9442 2185.
