Heifers £1255 and bullocks £1205 at Rathfriland

Another good full yard on Friday saw stock improve in price with more quality cattle around.

123 bullocks cleared up to £1205 for a 602k Lim from Kilkeel. Other Ch bullocks from this farm sold at £1120 for 610k, £1100 for 566k etc. An Annaghbane farmer reached £1155 for a 618k Ch. Some great store heifers were offered in the sale, eg a Derrycraw farmer: 656k at £1255, Rathfriland farmer: £1210 for 678k Ch, £1175 for 660k with a pen average of £1138. 150 plus weanlings reached £950 for 462k from Kilkeel. A 432k similar lot sold at £895 from the same farm. Poyntzpass farmer: 408k at £840. Heifer weanlings to £660 for 298k from Edenagarry and 270p/k tops. Suckler cows to £1320 and Fat cows to £985 for 662k from Banbridge. Dropped calves were a good trade with a top of £450 for a three month old Lim bull. An Annalong farmer reached £355 for an MBE bull.

Lambs and fat ewes maintained their recent rise in price on Tuesday evening. A Corbally farmer topped the lamb section at £85. Castlewellan, Hilltown and Kilkeel farmers all recorded £83.50 for their lots between 24k and 28k. Light lambs sold to 383 pence per kilo for 17.9k at £68.50 from Castlewellan with 18.5k at £70.50 for the same farm. Rostrevor farmer: 17.9k at £65.50 and a Cabra farmer sold 116k at £60.

FAT EWES AND RAMS: Fat rams sold to £100 from a Ballykeel farm. Fat ewes sold to £95 and £94 for Dromore and Kilkeel farmers. Castlewellan farmer: £84. Annaclone farmer: 20 ewes at £83.
