Very firm trade for cull cows at Markethill

An entry of 130 cull cows at Markethill on Tuesday 21st June continued to sell in a very firm trade for all classes.

Beef-bred cows to £159 for 640k at £1020 and up to £1180 for 740k (159). Main demand from £125 to £143 per 100 kilos.

Fleshed Friesian cows from £105 to £113 for 780k at £885.

Second quality Friesians from £85 to £100 per 100 kilos and the poorest types from £55 to £75 per 100 kilos.

Clean cattle to £180 for 650k heifer at £1170.

Dairy cows sold to £1070 for a calved Ayrshire third calver from a Templepatrick farmer. A Middletown farmer received 3950 for a calved heifer. A Rathfriland farmer sold two calved heifers at £900 and £800.

CALVES: The 210 calves returned a steady trade with top quality bulls to £470 paid twice for three week old blues. Angus bulls to £425 each. Main demand from £280 to £380 each. Good quality heifer calves from £190 to £270 for a blue.
