New support for EU research funding announced
FARMING Minister Michelle O’Neill has announced the creation of a local facilitator to support businesses and researchers in the area of Food Security, Agriculture and the Bio Economy who wish to apply for Horizon 2020 research funding.
The new post, which will be based in the Agri Food and Biosciences Institute, will provide local businesses and researchers with access to information about European money for research.
Minister O’Neill said: “The local agri-food industry has worked hard to build a reputation for quality wholesome food, both locally and internationally – something that has been supported by local researchers. We have excellent local research facilities and expertise and we should use this to maximise our opportunity to increase our share of European research funding available from 2013 onwards.
“We also want to help the agri-food sector make the most of the latest ideas, techniques and working practices so it can open up new markets, grow and become even more profitable. This new post, will help by showing local businesses and researchers how to access European money for the research they need to do just this.”
