THE Harper Ireland Chairman for the coming year has recently been announced as 19-year-old Niall Morrow from Belfast.

Harper Ireland is a student association at land-based institution, Harper Adams University College in Shropshire.

The club welcomes students from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, with Niall taking on the responsibility of running the club with the help of a committee.

Niall, who previously attended Campbell College, said: “I’m looking forward to taking the reins of the club and seeing what we can achieve in the next year.

“The main event that Harper Ireland organises is the infamous Paddy’s Ball in March. We’re hoping to up our game in terms of entertainment and secure some big acts. Our theme is ‘the only way is Ireland.”

Aside from Paddy’s Ball, the club organises regular social events for its members, from trips to theme park Alton Towers to go karting. It also acts as a link between prospective and current students at the University College, and provides a support network for those in need.

Niall, who hails from a dairy farm background is currently in the first year of a BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Mechanisation degree. He added: “It’s great to have this role on my CV for the future. Employers can see that from being Chairman, I have managerial and organisational skills.

“When I applied for the role I wanted a challenge, something different from day-to-day studies that would act as personal development.

“I’m really looking forward to what the year will bring.”

Niall is also an active member of the Harper Adams Shooting Club, enjoys playing golf and is a member of the Holstein Young Breeders.
