Northern Bank Sheep Championship up for grabs at Castlewellan
THE 2012 NISA/Northern Bank Sheep Championship reaches its conclusion today with a top class line-up of ewes from across Northern Ireland competing at the final of this prestigious competition in Castlewellan
All of the sheep taking part have qualified at earlier shows - Ballymena, Lurgan, Ballymoney, Armagh, Saintfield, Londonderry/Limavady, Newry and Omagh shows.
This year’s Final will be judged by well-known Suffolk breeder William Tait from Omagh, no stranger to the show-ring, who will select his champion from amongst the 16 qualifying ewes
Thanks to generous sponsorship from Northern Bank the top five sheep at the final will receive prize money and specially commissioned rosettes, with the NISA/Northern Bank Sheep Champion 2012 also taking home a specially commissioned Belfast Crystal Trophy.
Commenting on the competition, Tommy Collins, NI Shows Association Chairman and John Henning, from Northern Bank, both “congratulated all of the exhibitors who have reached the final” with the competition continuing to attract top quality entries from across the sheep breeds. There will be seven breeds represented at the final in Castlewellan with the Charollais and Texel breeds each having four representatives followed by three Suffolk’s and two Blue Faced Leicester’s with Greyface, Hampshire Down and Zwartbles each having one animal forward.
Once again this event promises a real spectacle of some of the best pedigree ewes in the country so get along to Castlewellan Show this afternoon and see for yourself – it will be exciting to see this year’s NISA/Northern Bank Sheep Champion crowned – don’t miss it!
