Praise for Dexter Cattle Society
MENINGITIS Research Foundation (MRF) would like to thank their member Mr Stephen Alexander from Greyabbey and The Dexter Cattle Society for their very generous donation of £433.25.
The money was raised when the Northern Ireland Group hosted the AGM for the whole Dexter Cattle Society at The Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle.
Stephen contracted meningitis whilst holidaying in Spain in 2009. Stephen and his family have been fundraising and helping raise awareness of the disease ever since. The Foundation is extremely grateful for this support.
Around 3,600 people get bacterial meningitis and septicaemia in the UK and Republic of Ireland each year. 25% of people who survive an initial diagnosis of meningitis and septicaemia will live with life-altering after-effects. About one in ten people who contract meningitis or septicaemia will die.
A spokesperson for the Meningitis Research Foundation commented: “We are delighted that Stephen and The Dexter Cattle Society have raised this super amount of money. It is only through the generosity and the hard work of our members and the support from societies like this that the Foundation is able to fund research, raise awareness and support those who have already been affected by meningitis and septicaemia.”
