editorial image

THE South Tyrone UFU Group had their first meeting of 2013 in early January.

Inspector Keith Jamieson from Dungannon PSNI came along to discuss ‘Rural crime in South Tyrone area’. Inspector Jamieson discussed how the amount of rural crime had increased significantly in the Tyrone. He also explained what initiatives they are using such as the Farm Watch scheme and Freeze Branding which has been set up in the area.

Bailie Thompson from the UFU legislation committee had an open floor discussion ‘Agricultural Vehicles on the Road’. A lively question and answer session followed each of the presentations. The Group would like to thank Inspector Jamieson and Bailie Thompson for a very informative presentation and for answering the questions on the evening.

The refreshments following the meeting were very kindly sponsored by George Weir & Sons, Dungannon.

The next meeting of the South Tyrone Group will take place on Monday 4th February at 8pm. The location is once again Dungannon Rugby Club, Moy Road, Dungannon. The speakers on the evening will be UFU Deputy President Barclay Bell, who will be discussing ‘Topical farming issues including farm safety and the latest EU CAP proposals’. Barclay will also conduct the group AGM. Members are therefore encouraged to attend the meeting.

The group would also like to remind our members that the South Tyrone Group Dinner will be taking place on Friday 15th February 2013 in the Corick House Hotel, Clogher. The band for the night will be ‘Robert M’. This will be a fun filled night. Tickets are available from the office on 028 877 25973.
