The Ulster Farmers' Union has honoured some of Northern Irelands leading sports stars at a Gala Banquet in Armagh.
The UFU Farming and Sports Awards honoured people from the local farming industry who have excelled in sport.
This was the finale to our Africa Appeal fund raising and we are now well on course to build a Primary School in South West Uganda over t
he winter months.
Local sporting stars including Olympic Rower Alan Campbell, Rugby legend Trevor Ringland and Armagh GAA captain Paul McGrane picked up awards as the Union continues to raise funds for our Primary School project in Kyenkando. £28,000 was raised at the event and the Union's fund raising campaign has now raised more than £112,000.
UFU Africa Appeal Chairman Gary McHenry said the fund raising had surpassed all expectations. He said; "We have raised a huge amount of money to change the lives of 300 young children in Uganda.
"The whole project has been a very positive experience for the Ulster Farmers' Union. Our target in April was £55,000 but we have now raised more than double that amount and the donations are still coming in.
"UFU members and the wider farming industry have been very generous and we are very grateful."
