The Ulster Farmers' Union Legislation Committee has produced an updated version of their 'Guide to Agricultural Vehicles on the Road' booklet which offers a practical guide for farmers when dealing with the vast amount of legislation involved with agricultural vehicles, their implements and loads.
UFU President John Thompson states: "We wish to encourage farmers to view this booklet as a useful tool in helping them deal with the complex area of legislation relating to agricultural vehicles. The previous 2006 Guide has proven to be a vital tool
for agricultural vehicle owners and for other relevant bodies and this latest version is even more farmer friendly."
Chairman of the UFU Legislation Committee Gregg Shannon comments: "The new booklet is a practical guide for people when dealing with the vast amount of legislation involved with agricultural vehicles, their implements and loads. The previous Guide which was published in 2006 has proven to be a vital tool for agricultural vehicle owners and for other relevant bodies and this latest version is even more farmer friendly.
"We wish to encourage farmers to view this booklet as a useful tool in helping them deal with the complex area of legislation relating to agricultural vehicles. It has been produced by farmers for farmers and will be a valuable reference document for them."
Martin Malone, NFU Mutual's Regional Director states: "As the insurer of the majority of Northern Ireland's farmers, we are all too familiar with the consequences to farming families of accidents involving agricultural vehicles. We're an insurer which prides itself on being part of the fabric of rural life and are very pleased to support this initiative."
The Guide is available from UFU Headquarters and Group Offices. The Guide is free to Union members and £10 to non-members. A free tax disc holder will also be given with all booklets, courtesy of NIE.
Roy Coulter, NIE Safety Manager, said: "We hope that the information on this tax disc will be a useful and timely reminder to farmers to always look up and look out for overhead electricity lines wherever they are working. Farm equipment today is much bigger than it used to be which makes it all the more important that farmers are vigilant and stay safe particularly over the busy summer months."
