The UFU President will next week lead a delegation of representatives from UFU groups and UFU Policy Chairmen to observe the debate by MLAs in the NI Assembly on the controversial proposals put forward by DARD for the delivery of tranche 2 of the Farm Modernisation Scheme. The debate will take place on Monday 8th March at Parliament Buildings, Stormont.
UFU President, Graham Furey, said: "The Minister's recent announcement that she will press ahead with slightly amended proposals for Tranche 2 of the Farm Modernisation Scheme is a very poor decision and has not addressed our concerns to any meaningful extent. The UFU will have a presence in the public gallery at this debate to demonstrate the strength of feeling there is among farmers about how the Minister has decided to allocate this Farm Modernisation Scheme funding."
UFU Rural Development Committee Chairman Wilbert Mayne said: "We want all politicians to see that this is an important issue for the farming community and fair system of allocation of scheme funds, where all farmers have a fair opportunity to avail of funding is what is needed All farms need to modernise their business.
"The UFU, this week, issued a briefing paper to all MLAs in advance of Monday's debate, outlining the UFU's alternative proposals on how the Farm Modernisation Scheme funding should be available."
