Co Fermanagh UFU members recently took part in the UFU demonstration at Stormont on 4 September 2015, to highlight the serious difficulties across the entire farming industry.
This was closely followed on 7 September by the UFU’s participation in an EU-wide demonstration organised by European farmers’ organisation, COPA-COGECA, held in Brussels. This was attended by UFU county chairman David Brown, who was among 70 UK farmers representing the NFU, NFU Scotland, NFU Cymru and Ulster Farmers’ Union.
Members are reminded that policy officers and the presidential team are willing to talk to members about concerns they may have and that technical officer Leslie Craig is in the office most Thursdays to discuss a whole range of issues, including: Single Farm Payment/Cross Compliance, Animal Health, Planning, Environmental issues, Employment, Drainage, Penalty appeals etc.
Moving into autumn, members are looking forward to the annual study tour, which commences next weekend on 27 September 2015. This year members will visit Poland, where they will view dairy, beef, sheep and poultry enterprises.
The first meeting of the winter programme will take place at 8pm, Thursday 8 October 2015, in the Killyhevlin Hotel, when Dennis Tourens, who now works for Cogent, will enlighten us about his time spent dairy farming in Saudi Arabia. A presentation on the recently launched, NFU Mutual SafetyHub for Small Farms, will also take place.
In an effort to cut down on farm accidents and fatalities the NFU Mutual recently launched SafetyHub for Small Farms, a dedicated online self-service portal for farming businesses targeted at typically less than three workers. The system will provide an intuitive and user friendly self-assessment tool to manage health and safety risks on local farms. Local members are encouraged to sign up at www.nfumutualsafetyhub.co.uk. Contact the office on 028 6632 6622 if you have any questions or queries or search “NFU Mutual SafetyHub” on YouTube.
Members are asked to support a charity night dance which has been organised on Friday 9 October 2015 in Gransha Hall at 9pm in aid of Albert’s grandson, Theodore McClelland, supporting Tree of Hope Children’s Charity.
Tickets are available at the office priced at £5 each. Music by Francie Smith. Enniskillen UFU staff members will also be taking part in the “Enniskillen Spooktacular” 5k run on 30 October 2015 to raise funds for Theo.
