Fodder workshops for beef farmers

WITH winter suckler and beef producers facing a number of problems relating to fodder the Ulster Farmers’ Union say farmers should be planning and costing their options earlier this year.

To help producers to make these decisions and costings, CAFRE Beef & Sheep advisers will be hosting a number of workshops throughout Northern Ireland. The events will be held locally and will address the issues of fodder shortages and dealing with lower quality silages. In addition budgets for feeding stores and finishing stock this winter will be discussed. There will also be workshops set up for sheep producers later in the year.

If you would like to attend a workshop in your area please ring 028 9442 6770 or email technology.admin@dardni.gov.uk  to book a place. Workshops will be held on-farm in the afternoon and in local in-door venues in the evening.

A number of calculators including silage in store calculator, relative feed value and a leaflet on Winter Feeding of ruminant livestock are available on the DARD website http://www.dardni.gov.uk/ruralni/ under the “Beef” tab.
