Growing stronger together

THE Ulster Farmers’ Union have teamed up with DARD, Northway Mushrooms and the Horticulture Forum for Northern Ireland to organise a Producer Organisation Information Forum which will be held on Thursday 7 March 2013 at 11am in the Seagoe Hotel, Portadown.

Elaine Shaw, Operations Manager at Northway said: “A Producer Organisation generally champions a specific product however the structures, support, processes and marketing employed by a successful Producer Organisation can easily be applied to other products. The structure gives a foundation for business growth and efficiency potential in growers working together. This approach was adopted by the Irish mushroom sector and was very successful in strengthening and developing the market. Therefore, we feel the forum will be very beneficial to producers exploring how this model can be replicated across all other sectors.”

UFU Deputy President Barclay Bell continued: “We are delighted to be working along with DARD and Northway Mushrooms on the Producer Organisation Information Forum. Being part of a Producer Organisation opens up opportunities for educating and supporting growers to ensure maximum yields and profitability, achieving the best possible prices through collective marketing, shortening the supply chain to bring growers closer to consumers and supporting growers to reduce their energy costs.

“Therefore I would encourage fruit and vegetable growers who want to find out more about the benefits of producer organisations to come along on the 7 March to the Information Forum.”

If you would like to find out more about the benefits of a Producer Organisation you will need to contact Sonia at UFU headquarters on 02890370222 to register for this event.

A full profile of speakers will be published soon.
