The North East Londonderry Group ended its year with a visit from Dr Suzanne Higgins, senior scientific officer at AFBI, who attended the AGM in February.
Suzanne gave a talk on soil fertility and answered questions on individual members’ soil related queries.
The AGM was conducted, and as the office bearers do a two year term, officers were re-elected in block. This was proposed by Wesley Gordon and seconded by Cyril Millar.
Prizes were also distributed to the group’s cereal competition winners. Ivan Wright sponsored the Spring Barley competition with Ivan Curry taking first, Mark McCollum second and Robert Glen third.
Keith Rosborough, representing KW Agri Supplies, sponsored the Oats competition with Ivan Curry taking first prize and Richard Thompson placed second.
Alec Irwin sponsored the Winter Barley competition, with Robert Glen taking first prize, William Taylor, second and Richard Thompson, third.
Charles Acheson sponsored the Wheat competition with Mark McCollum taking first prize, William McCollum second and Ivan Curry third.

With the ever increasing number of farm accidents, NE Derry UFU Group will be holding a First Aid Course on 16th April 2015. The course teaches the important skills required to deal with a range of first aid emergency situations.
Delegates will learn how to administer the relevant initial treatment in order to sustain life prior to the arrival of the emergency services. This is a practical course which is enhanced with video and theoretical sessions.
The course is delivered by an NFU Mutual Risk Management Services Ltd Health & Safety Consultant. Upon completion of the course participants will be awarded the Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate
