IN the sixth instalment of his blog, June was a good month for David allowing him to catch up on those much needed repairs around the farm.

For David it’s always been about managing cows more so than engineering, but luckily his father is pretty handy at this work. They have found the time to do some much needed roofing work and have an additional shed put up.

David says: “I’ve been told these jobs can be never ending, particularly when we are trying to expand our business.”

In this month’s blog David also talks about grass growth rates. He writes: “With grass growth rates having picked up substantially early this month, the grass got ahead of the cows. We had to cut and round bale a few paddocks in order to maintain our grass quality. We have also started topping paddocks which haven’t been grazed out cleanly to improve the quality of re-growth. Grass Growth rates are likely to start slowing down a bit over the next number of months so we’ve also brought some of the silage fields into the grazing rotation...”
