News that lamb sales in Asda increased in the last nine months as well as their intention to increase their commitment to UK produce this year was broadly welcomed by the UFU.

The importance of continuing to develop new products and promotion of red meat to help drive sales was highlighted.

Specification for cattle and sheep was also discussed and the need to provide farmers with long term notice should retailers decide to make changes. We also took the opportunity to raise our concerns about the NI-GB price differential and that the supply chain should work together to help address volatility in the market.
