Union representatives meet Secretary of State

AT an event hosted recently by the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association, UFU chief executive Clarke Black and president Harry Sinclair met the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Theresa Villiers.

Harry Sinclair said: “We have emphasized to the Secretary of State just how important agriculture is to the Northern Ireland economy. She already had an appreciation of this which was encouraging. We also told the Secretary of State that we did not agree with some of the main planks of the government’s policy on CAP reform and explained the regional needs which our members have in Northern Ireland. I hope in the not too distant future we will be able to host the Secretary of State on a local farm and give her a further insight into the needs of our members and the particular difficulties which they are facing this winter.”
