MEMBERS of YFCU took part in the association’s John Bradley Challenge ‘Farmyard Olympics, It’s a Knockout’ on Saturday 16th June 2012 during Greenmount’s Centenary Show.

Sponsored by Tesco, over 160 members completed four different sections of an It’s a Knockout style event with the top four teams making it through to the final. The final took the format of an obstacle course.

The winning team was Annaclone & Magherally YFC, John Porter, Jane Cowan, Jonathan Sleator and Emma Martin who won the John Bradley Challenge Cup. Further prizes were awarded for:

Best Themed Team – Farmyard Olympics –Newtownards YFC

Most Heroic Failure – John McCallister Trophy – Straid YFC

The John Bradley Challenge was established after the untimely death of John Bradley, a member of Ballycraigy YFC who was killed in a motorbike accident in 1995. Anyone who met John was impressed and overwhelmed by his boundless enthusiasm, commitment and his refusal to accept no for an answer. He always looked to extend what YFCU members could do and continually challenged members to try new things and learn new skills. And so the yearly John Bradley Challenge tries to continue what he started.
