WITH a good turnout of over 20 members Hillsborough YFC headed to Aunt Sandra’s Sweet Factory last Wednesday night.

Members enjoyed a great night’s craic finding out how sweets are made in the factory using traditional methods from over 100 years ago and even got to meet Willy Wonka’s cousin.

Members enjoyed watching a video on the different kinds of candy and lollies produced at Aunt Sandra’s and how they are sold across the country.

A live demonstration of these sweets and lollies being made was given by host ‘Uncle David’.

Members found the demonstration very enjoyable as Uncle David passed many jokes around and a good laugh was had by all.

The finished boiled sweets were then passed around and one member enjoying his sweet a bit too much almost required the Heimlich manoeuvre.

It was then time for the quiz where members’ knowledge of sweet-making was put to the test.

Members who answered the questions correctly won a candy prize which they had just witnessed being created.

Members then got a chance to buy some more of the delicious sweets and chocolate available in the shop.

Thanks were said to ‘Uncle David’ for his great display and demonstration before members went home.

Overall a great night’s fun was had and members will be looking forward to going back again.
