MEMBERS of County Down YFC begin the count down to the annual ABP Meats Young Hostess Competition.

This year, a competition with a difference is planned as Young Hostess sponsors ABP Meats Newry, are confirmed as judges for the event.

The county committee expressed delight to have the event’s sole sponsor take the hands on role of judging the competition.

The competition is due to take place in Dromore High’s home economics labs on February 25.

The Young Hostess tests both members’ culinary knowledge and practical skills with a short written test followed by a cooking round.

Each year several members battle it out in the kitchen to whip up creative dishes within timed conditions, which this year will all be taste tested by ABP representative Philip Simpson.

This year ABP meats will be providing participants with 500 grams of mince.

The results of the Young Hostess Competition are due to be announced at the county AGM on the 6th March at the La Mon Hotel.

Last year over 40 young people attended the competition. As a result of the high volume of entries, competitors must register in advance with Co Down secretary Hannah Crompton to ensure adequate mince is provided.
