THE YFCU invites and encourages their members to attend a free farm safety workshop in Ballymena next month.

The workshop, organised by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI), and supported by the Farm Safety Partnership, of which YFCU is a member of, will be held at Ballymena Livestock Market on Monday 11th March 2013.

Registration starts at 10.30 am and demonstrations will run until 1.30pm – with lunch included free of charge.

Young farmers are urged to attend and help combat the high death toll on local farms - 2012 ended with 12 farm fatalities in Northern Ireland and sadly this year has already seen the death of another farmer.

The workshop will feature practical demonstrations by qualified instructors from the farming industry on some of the most common accidents that can take place on farms.

The focus will be on reminding farmers to stop and think safe about the four main dangers on farms - slurry, animals, falls and equipment - SAFE.

Each session will run for around 25 minutes and will cover topics such as: PTO guarding, tractor maintenance, livestock handling, slurry safety, working safely at heights, child safety, telescopic handlers and quads.

The workshop will be held at Ballymena Livestock Market, 1 Woodside Road, Ballymena, BT42 4HX.

Booking is essential and YFCU members are asked to reserve places by contacting Rebecca McConnell at YFCU Headquarters via email at: communications@yfcu.org.
