ON Saturday 19th Janurary, Straid Young Farmers’ Club held a dyno day in association with local John Deere dealer Johnston Gilpin and Co Ltd.
The event was held at Richard Bones’ Yard, Templepatrick Road, Ballyclare. The aim of this event was for people to bring their tractors along to find out what horsepower their vehicle really had.
After an early start and a few technical hitches it was thought the booking list of 25 tractors would never be complete. With tractors waiting and more tractors on their way, dyno day was up and running.
However with each tractor that was completed, the organisers were saving time and everything was going to plan.
With more tractors turning up than organisers were expecting it was feared that the organisers wouldn’t be able to fit them in around the time plan.
The day came to an end around 4pm, the organisers had managed to put 38 tractors through the dyno.
After keeping track of all the maximum horsepower each tractor was putting out, the organisers were able to work out who’s had the highest power.
After carefully checking and double checking what each tractor was putting out, the organisers came up with a first, second and third places.
1st - Stephen Clyde (Straid) 718 Fendt - 242.3hp
2nd - Russell Bros (Templepatrick) New Holland 6070 - 221hp
3rd - Russell Bros (Templepatrick) Massey Ferguson 6480 - 215hp
After a very cold but successful day Straid Young Farmers’ Club were pleased to announce that the total amount raised was £480 which will go towards club funds.
The organisers would like to take this opportunity to thank Gethin Evans from Johnston Gilpin and Co Ltd for the use of the equipment and making the day a success. Thanks must also go to Richard Bones, for the use of his premises and to Davy Lorimer for providing food and refreshments on the day.
Finally the club would like to thank each and everyone who took time to come and support them on a very cold Saturday, you and your tractors made the day a huge success.
