CLAIRE Leonard has recently been appointed Millennium Volunteer/Membership Development Coordinator for the Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster (YFCU).
The funding for this new post has come from the Department of Education in Northern Ireland and the YFCU. The National Delivery Organisation of the Millennium Volunteers (MV) is the Volunteer Development Agency (VDA) and they have selected YFCU to be
1 of 12 Delivery Organisations of the (MV) programme across Northern Ireland.
MV is a nationwide scheme that is designed to acknowledge the work of young volunteers, aged 16-24. It is based on the principle that the young volunteer keeps a record of the hours that they do in their volunteer work and as these hours build up they can achieve their 50, 100 and 200 Award Certificates. Those who achieve their Award of Excellence (200 volunteer hours) will be invited to a ceremony organised by VDA to recognise their achievement.
MV is a worthwhile programme to get involved with because it promotes involvement in voluntary activity in your community, it is good for your CV and it shows the wider community the good work that the YFCU are doing throughout Northern Ireland in providing a youth service for young people in rural areas.
Claire will be attending committee meetings and club events to provide information on MV and get young people signed up to the programme if they are interested in becoming a Millennium Volunteer.
The role of Membership Development is to support and encourage the participation of young people in YFCU activities at local, county and central levels. Claire's role will allow her to provide a link between the clubs and the staff in Headquarters which will give members the opportunity to raise concerns or ideas as part of an ongoing strategy to make YFCU clubs better and better.
Claire can be contacted at YFCY Headquarters on 028 9037 0713 or email Claire.Leonard@yfcu.org
