THE 'Inter County Sheep Judging Competition' was held at The Royal Manx Agricultural Show, in the Isle of Man on Saturday 8th August 2009.
This year the two members that represented Ulster were both from Coleraine Club, Kathryn Taylor and John Cochrane. These two members were selected after winning their age groups, 18-21 and 21-25 at the Northern Ireland sheep stockjudging finals day
in July.
The judging competition was much more intense and challenging compared to the judging held here in Ulster.
The teams were required to judge four classes of sheep, a pen of Texels, Suffolks, Leicesters and Blackies.
Reasons then had to be given by each team member on two of the classes, one long wool and one short wool.
Kathryn and John travelled to the Isle of Man on Friday 7th August and were greeted by their hosts.
The pair was well looked after and entertained throughout the weekend attending the pre-show dance on Friday evening and the Isle of Man Young Farmers show dance on the Saturday evening.
The judging competition took place on the Saturday morning. After a long and testing day the winners were announced in the afternoon in the main area.
The winners for a second year in succession were the Ulster team and the team were presented with their prize by Deemster Michael Kerruish.
Looking back on their trip Kathryn and John would like to take this opportunity to thank their hosts for the weekend and the Isle of Man Federation of Young Farmers' Club for holding such a prestigious competition. Also Kathryn and John extend their thanks to the staff at headquarters for arranging this trip and making it possible, a brilliant weekend was had by both members.
