Kilraughts club runs for 'The friends of Jessica'

KILRAUGHTS young farmers took part in the Belfast Marathon raising £1745 funding for 'The Friends of Jessica' charitable trust.
Seventeen Kilraughts members gave up their bank holiday this year to run the collective distance of 130 miles. Sponsorship money raised at this Marathon plus the offering from their Annual Praise Service and a collection at the clubs parents evening, both held at 1st Kilraughts Presbyterian Church, totalled the amount of £1745 for 'The Friends of Jessica'.
Janet Wolfenden (pictured) and her husband David started 'The Friends of Jessica' charity in 1998.
Their premature baby, Jessica spent 5 months in the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care unit in the Royal Maternity Hospital, unfortunately she did not survive. From this time on, they have raised funding to support research and help purchase life saving equipment for this unit.
This charity felt especially important to the club members this year, as Kilraughts girl Megan Wright was born on the 16th January 2008 in Coleraine Hosptial, 15 weeks early. Weighing only 1lb 10oz she was immediately transferred to the Royal Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Her parents Tommy and Carly received care for Megan at the Royal for 13 weeks. Proud dad Tommy comments that 'the Neonatal Unit is a ward full of wee miracles.' Thankfully Megan is well settled at home in Kilraughts and is doing very well.
Kilraughts YFC members appreciate the generosity of all who supported them in raising this money. If you would like to donate further to 'The Friends of Jessica' trust details are available on their website www.friendsofjessica.org
