YOUNG Farmers' Clubs from throughout Northern Ireland flocked to CAFRE Loughry Campus to take part in the highly anticipated Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) Northern Ireland Quiz.
Sponsored by Ulster Bank, for the third year in a row, the YFCU Northern Ireland Quiz is very popular among the Association's membership and a staggering 44 clubs travelled to Cookstown to try and pick up some of the prize money courtesy of Ulster Bank.
Former YFCU Executive Officer Stephen Dowie acted as quiz master and put the clubs through their paces with questions on everything from General Knowledge to Sport in 2007.
Teams consisted of four members and each team had to have one Junior member. There were eight rounds in the quiz including a music and picture round which proved very entertaining for all members.
After each round the scores were counted by a team including Ulster Bank's Ann Calwell and then it was up to YFCU President Adrian Cooper to announce to a very anxious crowd the top three teams who picked up first to third place.
In third place and picking up £100 for their club was the Crumlin YFC team, Steven Stewart, Gregory Hamill and Lynn Irvine with 62 points; in second and getting £200 for their club was Garvagh YFC, William Hazlett, Stephen McCahon, Alfred Clyde and Russell Cooper with 64.5 and in first place was Moneyrea YFC, Jonathan Connolly, Beth Gregg, Jennifer Townley and France George with 67.5 points and received £300 for the top place.
Ann Calwell from Ulster Bank attended the quiz and was delighted to see the large turn out.
"It was great to see so many people at the quiz, it is always really good fun. We would like to thank the YFCU for all their hard work in organising it and we would also like to congratulate everyone who took part. Moneyrea YFC ended up very worthy winners," said Ann.
YFCU President Adrian Cooper believes the Northern Ireland Quiz provides a very entertaining night for all those who attend.
"The YFCU Northern Ireland Quiz is a great night's craic for all the teams who participate and there is a healthy rivalry among the members," said Adrian.
"The prize money provided for the top three teams by Ulster Bank is fantastic and can really make a difference to a club who hopes to buy new equipment or club jerseys. We are indebted to the bank its support and especially to Ann Calwell for helping out at the event," he added.
The YFCU would also like send a special note of thanks to Stephen Dowie for taking the time to be Quiz Master; Ann Calwell from Ulster Bank; to CAFRE College, Loughry Campus, for provided the superb venue, and everyone who helped with the stewarding and marking on the night.
