MEMBERS of the Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) had their creative flair rewarded with the announcement of prize winners of the Association's annual Art, Craft and 'Something from Scrap' competitions.
Firmly established in the YFCU programme of events, the Art, Craft and 'Something from Scrap' competitions attracted a high number of entries with the Craft competition attracting almost 60 submissions of creative pieces!
Like the 2006/7 competitions, the Art, Craft and 'Something from Scrap' entries where displayed at the YFCU Northern Ireland Quiz where visitors got to see the wonderful creations and observe first hand the creative talent that exists within the YFCU membership.
In the Art competition the entries were divided into two age categories 12-16 years and 16 - 25 years and the format for the 'Something from Scrap' followed this pattern as well. With the YFCU Craft competition, entries are divided into five age categories 12-14 years, 14-16 years, 16-18 years, 18-21 years and 21-25 years.
The Craft was judged by Joy Saunderson and Jean McCollam and the Art and 'Something from Scrap' was judged by Trevor Woods. The judges commented on the high standard of entries and that their task of choosing the top three in each category was not an easy one.
YFCU President Adrian Cooper announced the first to third places in each of the categories at the YFCU Northern Ireland Quiz and commented on the each of the competitions.
"The Art, Craft and 'Something from Scrap' Competitions continue to prove very popular with our membership," Adrian.
"All of the pieces on display were of a very high standard and are a credit to all those who put the effort into making them. These competitions highlight the creative flair that exists within the membership and congratulations must go to all those who entered and to the prize winners," he added.
