LISNAMURRICAN Young Farmers' Club, which is now in its 69th year, has just had the great honour of one of its esteemed members being elected to the highest rank position within the Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster.
Thoburn McCaughey, a very dedicated and enthusiastic member of Lisnamurrican YFC has just been selected as president of one of the largest youth organisations within Northern Ireland. This is a great honour and achievement not only for Thoburn but f
or Lisnamurrican YFC as this is the first member in the club's existence to hold this honoured position.
Thoburn joined Lisnamurrican YFC sixteen years ago and has participated in numerous competitions including Stock Judging, Public Speaking, Ulster Young Farmer, One and Three Act Drama and the Arts Festival to name a few.
Within Lisnamurrican YFC, Thoburn has held numerous positions including Stock Judging Representative, Assistant Secretary and Club Leader. His qualities as a leader were recognised within the County Antrim Committee as Thoburn acted as County Chairman in 2004. He has also been an integral member on YFCU central committees involved with the organisation and management of this youth movement.
Thoburn has previously held the positions of Vice President and Deputy President and will now act as YFCU President for the next two years. Thoburn's main role as President is to guide the YFCU movement. His aims are to increase the membership of the organisation and help and encourage members to participate in competitions and all opportunities that the YFCU has to offer. As the organisation is an enjoyable, interesting, and beneficial movement, Thoburn wants to ensure that all members take pleasure and pride in being a "Young Farmer".
Thoburn's highlights through the duration of his "Young Farmer membership have been receiving the coveted 'Member of the Year' Award in the first year that the competition occurred. Thoburn triumphed over stiff opposition from competitors from the six counties within Northern Ireland. He has also acted as an ambassador for the YFCU on their exchange programme and has won numerous awards at club and county level.
Thoburn said:"I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of this dynamic organisation. It has developed me personally through the skills I have enhanced and obtained. I have numerous highlights and favourable memories of being a Young Farmer but being nominated at the President of the Young Farmers Clubs of Ulster is undoubtedly the greatest honour."
Members of Lisnamurrican YFC extend their congratulations to Thoburn in his successes within the organisation and wish him all the best for the next two years in office.
