STRABANE & District Young Farmers recently co-hosted a Health Information Workshop together with Strabane Farmers Forum, at their Young Farmers' Club in Victoria Bridge, County Tyrone.
The event, held on Wednesday 30th April, was organised by Strabane Farmers Forum which acts as an umbrella organisation for 11 different farming groups in the Strabane areas including Strabane & District Young Farmers.
The Forum decided on a specif
ic opportunity to bring topical health issues to their largest Young Farmers' Club and create links with local projects discussing issues surrounding Alcohol and Drug misuse together with suicide prevention and intervention in the young.
Guest Speakers on the night included, Leona McMenamin from Divert Alcohol and Drug Awareness Project and Barry McGale, Suicide Prevention Officer from Western Health and Social Services Board.
This Health Workshop was part of a newly launched project by Strabane Farmers Forum which includes training and development for their many members.
The project is part financed by the European Union through the Peace & Reconciliation Programme managed for the SEUPB by the Northern Ireland Rural Development Council (RDC) and will run until the middle of this year.
Project Co-Ordinator Lianna Gallagher commented on the Workshop
"We thought we would focus an individual health aspect of this project towards our young farmers and bring to the forefront issues which are well know within today's society and less highlighted within rural communities. The Strabane Young Farmers were very keen to co-host the event and the night was very successful for all those involved. On behalf of the Forum we would like to thank the Strabane Young Farmers for their input and support with special thanks to Elaine Millar and William McKean, club leader," said Lianna
