THE Isle of Man Federation of Young Farmers was delighted to host some visiting young farmers at the Island's Royal Manx Agricultural Show, which celebrated its 150th anniversary, recently.
Enthusiastic young farmers travelled to the Island for the premier agricultural show from across the UK to take part in the annual inter-county sheep judging competition. Unfortunately the weather was not on their side but the visitors and locals embraced the competition with full spirit nevertheless.
This year there were teams from Ayrshire, Clwyd, Ulster, Southern Ireland and of course the Isle of Man, all battling it out for the winning title. The eventual winners were Ulster - David Dodd and Gavin Watson scored an impressive 565.6 points out of 600 with the judges making particular comment about the team's accuracy in judging. Second were Ayrshire A's John Marr and David Smith and third Ayrshire B's Graeme Wallace and Brian Young. The judges for this competition were past members and dedicated supporters of the Young Farmers movement, Keith Kerruish, Paul Costain, John Teare and Henry Watterson.
After the Grand Parade, the delighted winners of the inter-county sheep judging competition, David and Gavin, were presented with their prizes by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor Sir Paul Haddacks.
