Farmer convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to cow
Robert McFarland, of Coolaghy Road, Newtownstewart, Omagh, Co Tyrone, was convicted at Strabane Magistrates' Court on 31 August 2016 of charge of transporting a bovine animal in a way that caused or was likely to cause injury or unnecessary suffering.
McFarland was convicted and fined £1,000 plus £15 offender levy.
The court was told he presented a bovine animal for slaughter at an abattoir in Northern Ireland. The official Veterinary Surgeon at the abattoir noticed that the animal had an injured right foreleg and in their opinion caused the cow unnecessary pain and suffering.
