Great turnout for another spectacular Garvagh Show
The Garvagh Show, sponsored by RiverRidge Recycling, treated guests to an array of entertainment including the comedic styling of The Poteen Makers theatre show and a stunning display of vintage vehicles and machinery.
To mark the club’s anniversary there was even a classic threshing display with an original thresher and Fordson tractor.

Chairman of the Garvagh Clydesdale and Vintage Vehicle Club, Nevin Smith said: “We were absolutely delighted with how the show turned out this year on our 20th anniversary. The huge turnout of spectators meant we could mark this milestone in a spectacular way and treat everyone to an extra special show and a fun filled day.
“The main event included the Grand Parade along main street which was led by Victor Scott, who won the driving class. Horses and cars alike were outstanding, and it was good to see so much effort put into their presentation, even if you aren’t a vintage car fan or a lover of horses, you would have, without a doubt, appreciated the beauty on display. With an entry of 30 Clydesdale horses, Judge Sandy Aiken from Angus, Scotland had a very difficult task.
“We were also delighted to have RiverRidge Recycling back on board as our main sponsor this year. I would like to say a very special thank you to them. As a locally based company they’ve been very helpful and continue to be an excellent supporter of the show. Their assistance enables us to offer guests an enjoyable event each year.”
Pamela Jordan, Business Development Manager at RiverRidge Recycling, commented: “This is a fantastic local event, which has gone from strength to strength each year. It is great to be involved in the Garvagh Show, it continues to bring something unique to the local community. Congratulations to the Garvagh Clydesdale and Vintage Vehicle Club on all their hard work and providing another brilliant event.”

Chairman Nevin Smith added: “There were many winners on the day but local exhibitor Sandra Henderson had a fourth successive championship with her mare, Croaghmore Roxy. Geoffrey Tanner was Reserve Champion and Pat O’Boyle took male championship. In the Clydesdale riding class Joanne McLaughlin followed up her recent success at the Highland show with another superb display of riding skills.
“There were many striking scenes including, Tommy Irwin from Fintona driving a pair of Connemara horses with an elegant white wedding carriage. John Weir’s farm drew a lot of attention, alongside an Irish jaunting cart driven by Declan Ferris and Ann Ferris (alias John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara on the film theme of the Quiet Man). The Vintage Horse threshing, carried out by Johnny Fee, under the supervision of a performing rooster was another remarkable moment.
“The pet show gathered a lot of interest with overall winner being the Yorkshire Terrier, Pippa, owned by Joan Kennedy. Most unusual pet was a Boris the Meerkat exhibited by Funny Farm Exhibits.
“This was a real community day and on behalf of the club I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our various sponsors, many volunteers and to Main Street Catering Group for the delicious refreshments, all this support helps us to provide an incredible show year after year.”
