Rates relief reminder for farming families - Lockhart
and on Freeview 262 or Freely 565
With annual rates bills typically issued in April, now is the time to ensure you’re benefiting from all available support.
Many farming families are already receiving a 20% relief on farmhouse rates, and this relief may also extend to additional homes connected to the farm, especially where family members are farming together. The key is that farming must be the primary source of income.

Hide AdUpper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, said: “Farming families and rural communities are under increasing financial pressure, and it’s essential to make sure you are benefiting from all available support. Rates relief can provide a significant reduction in costs, particularly for farm households and those caring for elderly or disabled family members. For more information or to apply, visit www.nidirect.gov.uk or contact Land & Property Services. Alternatively, you can reach out to my offices, where my team will be happy to assist with the application process.”

Additional Reliefs to Consider:
- Lone Pensioner’s Allowance (LPA):
If you are 70 or older and live alone, you may be entitled to 20% off your rates. Even if you don’t live alone, you may still qualify if you live with:
- A carer (not your spouse or partner),
- Someone you care for (not your spouse or partner),
- Someone under 18, or
- Someone with a severe mental impairment.
- Disabled Person’s Allowance (DPA):
If your home has been adapted for someone with a permanent disability, you may be entitled to a 25% discount. This can also be combined with the LPA for even greater savings.
