Suspended sentence for illegal waste charges

A Co Fermanagh man as been given a suspended sentence for having 19,000 tonnes of illegal waste on his land.

At Dungannon Crown Court today (Monday), Stephen Harron of Arney Road, Skea, Enniskillen pleaded guilty to four waste charges and was given a 12 month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for each of the four charges. These charges related to the illegal deposit and keeping of controlled waste.

Northern Ireland Environment Agency officers investigated the site, owned by Stephen Harron, on Arney Road, Skea where more than 19,000 tonnes of mixed domestic and commercial waste was deposited and kept without a waste management licence.

The controlled waste consisted of domestic and commercial type waste, including plastics, food packaging, carpet fragments, wood, glass, metal fragments, wires and insulation foam.
