Beef cows sell to a top of £2015 at Markethill

An entry of 130 Cull Cows in Markethill on Tuesday 19th July sold in a steady demand with good quality beef cows selling from £200 to £221 per 100 kilos for 910 kilos at £2015 from an Armagh farmer followed by £219 for 790k at £1735 from a Keady producer.

Heavy Friesian cows sold from £150 to £186 for 700k at £1315 from a Tandragee farmer. The same owner received £180 for 680k at £1235. Second quality Friesian cows sold from £120 to £140 and the poorest types from £90 to £110 per 100 kilos.

Calves

The 130 calves sold in the best trade for several months. Good quality bull calves under 6 weeks reached £520 for a Sim from a Dungannon farmer followed by £420 for a Blue from a Gilford producer. All good quality bulls sold from £240 to £380 per head. Good quality heifer calves were in an exceptional demand and sold to £500 for a 4 week old Sim followed by £425 for a 2 week old Char, both from a Dungannon producer. All good quality heifer calves sold from £240 to £370 per head.
