Calf heifers selling to £1880 at Markethill Mart

An entry of 850 cattle at Markethill on Saturday 20th March included the largest ever sale of weanlings with a total of 390 lots sold.

HEIFERS

The 250 heifers maintained a very strong trade with good quality beef heifers from £210 to £243 per 100 kilos for 650k at £1585 from a Castlecaulfield farmer followed by £223 per 100 kilos for 630k at £1405 from a Tassagh producer.

Good quality feeding heifers sold from £215 to £254 per 100 kilos for 540k at £1375 from a Keady farmer followed by £240 per 100 kilos for 610k at £1465 from a Moira producer.

A Loughgall producer received £236 per 100 kilos for 580k at £1375.

Good quality middleweight heifers sold from £200 to £233 per 100 kilos for 482k at £1125 from a Keady farmer followed by £233 per 100 kilos 480k Aberdeen Angus at £1125 for a Derrynoose producer.

Good quality beef bullocks sold to a top of £229 per 100 kilos for 688k at £1575 from an Armagh farmer followed by £221 per 100 kilos for 700k at £1545 from a Kilkeel producer.

Good quality middleweight bullocks sold from £220 to £277 per 100 kilos for 456k at £1265 from a Portadown farmer.

The same owner received £270 per 100 kilos for 384k at £1035 and £268 per 100 kilos for 460k at £1235.

Good quality Friesian bullocks sold from £160 to £188 per 100 kilos for 704k at £1325 from a Glenanne farmer followed by 580k at £1065 from a Keady producer.

Top price of £970 was paid for 368k at £263 for a Kilkeel producer.

A special entry of in calf heifers for a Warrenpoint farmer sold to a top of £1880, £1800 and £1780 with others from £1250 to £1660 each.
