Holstein bulls top2,020gns at Kilrea

Bulls reached a ceiling of 2,020gns at Holstein NI’s autumn sale, hosted by HA McIlrath and Sons Ltd at Kilrea Mart.

Auctioneer Mark Stewart reported a 100% clearance with seven lots changing hands to average £1,880 per head.

Sale leader was the January 2019 born Prehen Flourish GPLI £655 consigned by Robbie and Stuart Smith, Londonderry. Sired by the former number four UK PLI bull VH Balisto Brook, he was bred from Prehen Observer Froukje VG86 LP50 VG86. Buyers were Messrs W and T Henry, Cookstown.

Following close behind at 2,000gns was Bellemont Loveable PLI £414 from the McCollum family – Norman, Nancy and Nathanael, Coleraine. Born in July 2019, he is by the home-bred Bellemont Loveheart ET, and bred from Bellemont Spring Ann who produced 11,261kgs at 4.59% butterfat and 3.44% protein her second 305-day lactation. This one was snapped up by Messrs T and DT Hamilton, Carrickfergus.

The October 2018 Relough Awalk PLI £512 came under the hammer at 1,980gns for R McLean and Sons, Donaghmore.

Sired by De Su 14222 Kenobi, his dam is the home-bred Relough Mardigras Amy 3 ET SP VG86 who gave 14,821kgs at 4.34% butterfat and 3.34% protein in her second lactation.

Buyer was Alan McNair from Ballyclare.

Robbie and Stuart Smith sold the February 2019 Prehen Famous GPLI £627 for 1,800gns to WR Savage from Magherafelt.

Another by VH Balisto Brook, this one is bred from Prehen Bourbon Froukje 100 VG85 who is projected to produce 9,813kgs at 4.79% butterfat and 3.66% protein in her second lactation.
