In calf heifers selling to £1640 at Markethill Mart

An entry of 740 cattle at Markethill on Saturday 27th March sold in an exceptionally strong demand for both weanlings and store cattle selling in the best trade so far this season.

Heifers

180 heifers returned an outstanding trade with good quality forward feeding heifers selling from £220 to £242 per 100 kilos for 600k Charolais at £1455 from a Loughgall farmer.

The same owner received £239 per 100 kilos fir 600k at £1435.

Beef heifers sold to £231 per 100 kilos for 660k at £1535 from a Katesbridge farmer. The same owner received £228 per 100 kilos for 640k at £1465.

Top price heifer of £1555 was paid for a 700k Charolais at £222 from a Moira farmer.

Good quality middleweight heifers sold from £210 to £238 per 100 kilos for 434k at £1035 for a Cullyhanna farmer followed by £236 per 100 kilos for 468k at £1105 from a Portadown producer.

Good quality light heifers sold from £220 to £259 for 350k at £905 from a Camlough farmer.

The same owner received £250 per 100 kilos for 350k at £885.

Beef bullocks sold to £229 per 100 kilos for 746k Belgian Blue at £1710 from a Tassagh farmer.

The same owner received £224 per 100 kilos for 734k at £1645. Main demand from £210 to £220 per 100 kilos.

Good quality middleweight bullocks sold readily from £220 to £264 per 100 kilos for 408k blonde at £1075 from a Sixmilecross farmer followed by £252 per 100 kilos for 450k at £1135 from a Castlewellan producer.

Lightweights sold to £321 per 100 kilos for 340k at £1105 from a Sixmilecross farmer followed by £300 per 100 kilos for 312k at £935 from a Moira farmer.

Good quality Friesian bullocks sold steadily from £155 to £180 per 100 kilos for 638k at £1145 from a Hillsborough producer.

The same owner received £170 per 100 kilos for 616k at £1045.

Top price of £1020 for 360k Charolais £297 from a Keady producer. Stronger male weanlings sold from £210 to £251 per 100 kilos for 470k at £1180 from an Armagh producer followed by £244 per 100 kilos 402k at £980 from an Armagh producer.

Top price £1100 was paid for 470k £232 from a Keady producer.

Good quality heifer weanlings sold to a top of £350 per 100 kilos for an exceptional Charolais heifer 366k at £1280 from an Armagh farmer.

Main demand for good quality heifers from £240 to £301 per 100 kilos for 274k at £825 from a Portadown farmer.
